  • I don’t like singers who scream like Steven Tyler or AC/DC’s front men do, but somehow, Jagger, Plant, and Axl Rose are okay
  • After calculating my monthly expenses, it is clear that I spend too much money
  • Jersey (or at least Tenafly and Englewood) is prettier than New Yorkers let on
  • I have the amazing ability to throw my sleep schedule off course for one night, then pull it back on track in a day
  • Transcribing interviews of families with disabled members is both enlightening and painful
  • Office parties are fun, but only if your coworkers make it that way
  • Cake rocks
  • Again, cake rocks
  • Food rocks more
  • It should rain more
  • Getting rid of furniture and home decorations is hard

What I’ve done this morning

Starting from midnight:

  • Watched Sex and the City with my girls.
Only die hard fans like myself understand how exciting it is to watch this movie, even if it offers nothing new. Also, the soundtrack is damn solid (Al Green was a prime choice).
  • Went to Sunway in Flushing for yogurt nature with motcha agar, proceeding to “shit talk” anyone that came to mind. The bitches came out tonight!
  • Watched The Simpsons.
  • Slept at 4 AM (way too late).
  • Woke up at 9 AM with a terrible stomach ache.
  • Went back to bed and got woken up again by a FedEx deliveryman; he brought the Macbook Pro that I have to return. The box is sitting in my living room now, taunting me to open it. Matt has already called it Pandora’s Box.
  • Spent way too much time “catching up” with people on Facebook.

What I’ve eaten in the past few days

  • Scallion pancake from Zhu Ji, Flushing
  • Coconut from Chinatown
  • Subway toasted 6″: honey oat, tuna, provolone, jalapenos, spicy mustard, and vegetables. I’ve had this one many many times in the past week.
  • Canned corn from Matt
  • Noodles with soy sauce, sesame oil, and fried egg
  • Dim Sum with Laura and Kim
  • Pasta with tomato sauce and mozzarella
  • Baby carrots
  • Mediterranean tuna salad and whole wheat pita
  • Cookies from Matt’s Mom
  • Pinkberry at 68th (?) and Amsterdam. This was right before Joanne and I spotted two celebrities (Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway) and I lost my phone.

Nothing too interesting. Only proof that I should be more watchful of what I eat.

Where I’ve been today / What I’ve done

  • Joyce Leslie. Mo bought an entirely new outfit to save herself from public humiliation and heat, and I bought a pair of $6 (overpriced) earrings.
  • St. Marks Place. Some hookah bar that, unfortunately, was not air conditioned but still pretty damn nice and, due to the lighting, very red. Also met Mo’s friends, Auyon, Nisha, and Vishal here; we had a good half hour long session of laughter and amusement.
  • The A Train, three times. First to meet my school friends on 23rd and 8th, second to go up to Columbus Circle, third to go down to Times Square.
  • Starbucks on 23rd and 8th Ave. I bought a $1.80 (not as overpriced as I expected) Tazo green tea, with spearmint and lemongrass. For the first time ever, I arrived earlier than everyone else!
  • Regional Thai on 22nd and 7th Ave. Some place that my friends and I randomly walked into, partly because we wanted Thai food and partly because the weather was schizophrenic (a mix of windy, cloudy, humid, rainy, and sunny). I was proud of myself for dressing and preparing appropriately before leaving my condo.
  • Cupcake Cafe on 18th between 5th and 6th Ave. Basically the cutest thing ever and what I thought would be the answer to my cupcake craving. Unfortunately, it (and most bakeries) closes at 8 PM, and my friends and I arrived at 8:02. I curse punctuality.
  • Barnes and Noble on 17th Street, Union Square. My favorite local rest stop. Passed by “the largest book store” (a second B&N) while walking here.
  • Columbus Circle. I realized today that the fancy plaza with the ugly fat statues is called Time Warner Center. I really just never cared or paid attention until that moment.
  • Borders Bookstore @ Time Warner Center. The cupcakes were $5 (overpriced), but the oatmeal raisin cookie, while stale, was decent (and only $1.50). Picked up some Foucault but furthered little of my knowledge on his work.
  • The Fountain @ Columbus Circle. Second time I was there. Watched Auyon and Mo cuddle, traded the occasional funny story, and felt my hives worsen in the cold. The water fountains were beautiful, but I saw a discarded snack bag in it before sitting down. This was also right before Mo had a mild shouting match with her mother, who found Mo’s cigarettes in her college luggage.
  • Sunway on Prince Street, Flushing. Mo got yogurt with matcha agar; I got green milk tea with matcha agar.
  • 66 Restaurant on Prince. Smelly bean curd and egg/tomato over rice. $11 total. Can’t go wrong with cheap and delicious Flushing food.
  • Hei Hei, across Flushing Mall. Ate and watched Mo reunite with some old coworkers. Shamelessly ate my smelly bean curd while nearby bar squatters gaped (I’m not really sure of this because I was too engrossed with my food). Also reunited with an old friend, Vince (“You guys look really different” “Well, it hasn’t been four or more years”).

My vote: another excellent day.

My best friends

This is a random list of things that my best friends and I have done today:

  • Called me and my house (respectively) Santa and Santa’s House.
This is because I am hospitable and give them: Breyer’s coffee ice cream, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Lip Smackers Starburst, sunglasses, a pair of green faux suede boots, a pair of white faux leather pointy boots, Poland Spring water bottle, DVDs, cable internet, and bottles of French wine.
  • Talked about people that they don’t keep in touch with, people who make strange or awesome friends, and people who suck because they just do.
  • Watched Sex and the City and talked about the characters/actresses.
This includes: Why are Carrie’s outfits so outrageous? Who’s the best guy in the show? Yo, Samantha’s outfits are so flashy; but she makes them work! Did you hear about Kristin Davis’s sex tape? I didn’t realize that the actresses have such estranged relationships. SJP lived with RDJ for seven years!
  • Sliced oranges on my newly unwrapped apple cutting board.
  • Sat on laptops and talked online while sitting next to each other.
  • Contemplated a BBQ, then realized that about five others are going on today.
  • Visited Gino’s, seasoned a slice with tons of spices and garlic, missed then made plans to eat the much larger slices at Koronets.
  • Talked about activism and school, i.e. the Columbia hunger strike.
  • Bought and cooked food (pasta, muenster, tomato & egg) together.

Everywhere! Everything!

Today was a great day. As Joanne observed, there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky.

  • Jing Fong Restaurant, on Elizabeth btwn. Canal and Bayard. Dimsum rocks. My favorites: shrimp dumplings and coconut pudding.
  • Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, where we watched a huge crowd of people wait way too long for a measly scoop or two.
  • A fried dumpling place. No purchases, but Ryan swears to pick up some frozen batches when he finds the time.
  • SoHo
  • A shaved ice stand (there was actually one on every block). Coconut/Lime ices for about $1 each. Yum.
  • SoHomes (haaa, clever). Massive liquidation sale. Ryan and Joanne got some hand towels, and I picked up a colorful feather throw.
  • Old Navy. Joanne needed flip flops. I walked in and screamed, “Ahh! It smells like plastic!”
  • Anne Taylor Loft. 70% sale, but no work clothes. All jewelry was $26. Boo.

I had breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast, plain yogurt with jam) and watched two hours of Sex and the City. Now Matt’s coming over, and The Triplets of Belleville finished downloading onto my hard drive. This day couldn’t get any better.
