I never write in blogs when I get too depressed from school. I love/hate school. Oh well.

Erica Barry: Are you crying?
Erica Barry: Yeah. It’s my new thing. I’ve gotten abnormally brilliant at it.
Marin: Why? What is it?
Erica Barry: I’m in love. Ain’t it great? Seems like I gotta learn how to that… love-them-and-leave-them stuff, you know?
Marin: Oh mom, I hate this. Now do you get my theory about all this? You gotta self-protect.
Erica Barry: You don’t really buy this stuff you say, do you? You don’t actually think that you can outsmart getting hurt?
Marin: I think it’s worth trying.
Erica Barry: Listen to me. You can’t hide from love for the rest of your life because maybe it won’t work out… maybe you’ll become unglued? It’s just not a way to live.
Marin: Are you telling me this is good? What’s happened to you?
Erica Barry: I think you should consider the possibility that you and I are more alike than you realize. I let someone in, and I had the time of my life.
Marin: I’ve never had the time of my life.
Erica Barry: I know, baby. And I say this from the deepest part of my heart. What are you waiting for?

• I don’t like singers who scream like Steven Tyler or AC/DC’s front men do, but somehow, Jagger, Plant, and Axl Rose are okay
• After calculating my monthly expenses, it is clear that I spend too much money
• Jersey (or at least Tenafly and Englewood) is prettier than New Yorkers let on
• I have the amazing ability to throw my sleep schedule off course for one night, then pull it back on track in a day
• Transcribing interviews of families with disabled members is both enlightening and painful
• Office parties are fun, but only if your coworkers make it that way
• Cake rocks
• Again, cake rocks
• Food rocks more
• It should rain more
• Getting rid of furniture and home decorations is hard

Where do I start? Well, first, these past two weeks have been the best of my life, because the people I’m with just keep getting better and better. Exhaustive days spent running errands for my internship are often coupled with late dinners in the Village with Matt or in Union Square with Mo, Daniel, Jess, Terence, and whoever else makes an entrance. In the past few days, I’ve (re)discovered: Fort Totten, Chelsea Market, South Street Seaport, Scions, Cherry Valley, that other place across from Cherry Valley, 5 Ptz, P.S.1, Angelica Kitchen, Red Bamboo, Lincoln Square Cinemas, Lincoln Square B&N, iced Chai lattes, fiction (Michael Chabon, Nicole Krauss, and my usual favorite, Jonathan Safran Foer), long subway rides, The L Mag, free concerts, Tribeca, Cranium, ice cream cake, Chinatown, sleeping for nine hours, and sometimes not sleeping for more than twenty four.

I recently met two people who changed my life in ways I never thought possible. Sadly, I was too proud, or too scared, to tell them of this impact before they made their staged exits. Now, when I walk down a familiar street that they frequented, I wonder if I’ll ever see and have profound conversations with them again.

Maybe in another ten years.
